‘Cherry avenue’ built in Chaping village

2022-01-17

Recently, workers were busy planting cherry trees in Chaping Yao Ethnic Village, Tangdong Subdistrict, Zixing City. A local cadre said that these cherry trees planted were donated by caring people in the village. A cherry tree is worth 600 or 700 yuan. When the cherry blossoms are in bloom, the new road will be a “cherry avenue”.

Chaping village is the only ethnic village in Tangdong subdistrict, with a population of 1,329. And 80% of locals are Yao ethnic people.

Given the minority cultures, the local government has been protecting and inheriting the Yao ethnic culture, and created a new business card for the integration of culture and tourism. Therefore, the poor village has become a beautiful village.

Last year, the village was awarded the national demonstration village for ethnic unity and progress, and the Panwang Festival, (Panwang or King Pan, ancestor of the Yao ethnic group) has been included on the latest list of national intangible cultural heritage.

In recent years, the village has further excavated cultural resources and made great efforts to build Yao cultural brands. Such convenient facilities for people as leisure paths, natural parking lots, rural bookstores and psychological consulting room have been built in the village. Colorful activities like Reunion Festival and Panwang Festival with Yao characteristics were held, as well as ethnic performances with local characteristics.

What’s more, a series of measures have been taken by the local government to strengthen primary-level governance. It has won many honorary titles, like provincial demonstration village for democracy and rule of law, and municipal demonstration village for cultivating and practicing core values of socialism.

And its “village regulations” was rated as the most beautiful village regulations in Chenzhou city and the second batch of excellent village regulations in Hunan province last year.
