When talking about changes of his fish farm, Li Zhiping, a fish farmer in Zixing City, smiles from ear to ear. As the overall fishing ban has been implemented in Dongjiang Lake and other natural waters, the transformation and upgrading of fishery in Dongjiang Lake encountered some difficulties and challenges.

In 2019, Zixing Lanxi Ecological Planting and Breeding Cooperative, with Shuili Village of Xingning Town as the center, established a characteristic three-dimensional fishery industrial park for industrial aquaculture, paving a new development path for the Dongjiang fish industry.

Thanks to industrial aquaculture, the unit yield has increased by 30 times, which became a booster of the transformation of traditional fishery.

In the past two years, Zixing City has organized fish farmers to learn advanced industrial aquaculture techniques in Weifang of Shandong Province, Youxi of Fujian Province and Longnan of Jiangxi Province, and trained more than 1,000 fish farmers on modern facility fishery.

Five industrial aquaculture techniques were introduced and two demonstration bases were established, setting off a wave of developing industrial aquaculture.
Zixing also puts focus on improving efficiency by science and technology.

It has introduced a number of characteristic varieties such as shad, perch, barbus and eel, and carried out technological research on three-dimensional aquaculture, waste utilization, modern fishery facilities and so on. Characteristic aquaculture has been promoted, with the benefit increased by 2 to 5 times compared with traditional aquaculture.

At present, there are 29 industrial aquaculture bases covering an area of 200,000 square meters and providing jobs for more than 100 people who gave up fishing because of the fishing ban. The annual production of fresh fish is nearly 10,000 tons, effectively promoting the transformation and upgrading of Zixing fishery.
