To build a characteristic strawberry town and strengthen the agriculture industry, a strawberry training school was built in the district. It solved the problem of raising strawberry seedlings, made use of the climatic advantages of Yangtian Lake and temporary planting in caves to improve the survival rate and subsequent production capacity of strawberry seedlings. This ended the history of purchasing seedlings from other provinces and greatly improved the yield and quality of strawberries.

Meanwhile, focusing on the characteristics of experiential agricultural tour, the district strives to build leading enterprises to drive the development of strawberry industry in Wushan, Tashui, Tangchang, Zhaolv and Huatang villages, forming a unique strawberry tourism industrial cluster in Chenzhou city.

And a 20-hectare strawberry demonstration base was built in villages along Xihe River. Now, there are about 186.7 hectares of strawberries in Beihu District, with an average annual output value of 45,000 yuan per mu (about 0.067 hectare).

“As a central urban area, Beihu District has less cultivated land, causing limited development of agricultural industry.” The head of Beihu District of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said that to this end, the district actively connects with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, fully promotes the construction of agricultural projects, and builds 10-billion-yuan characteristic agricultural industries.

The district has focused on developing facility agriculture, model agriculture and headquarters agriculture from scale agriculture. A special fund of 10 million yuan is issued each year as rewards given to new agricultural business entities that provide high-quality agricultural products including vegetables, edible fungi, strawberries and camellia oleifera for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

After a series of measures, the district further amplified the advantages of the market, comprehensive transportation and rapid customs clearance in central urban areas, and took the lead in consolidating the achievements made in poverty alleviation, in coordination with the extensive drive for rural revitalization.

Last year, the output value of vegetables, edible fungi, strawberries and camellia oleifera, which are four characteristic industries worth 10 billion yuan odd each in Beihu district, exceeded 7 billion yuan.
