Hunan sees good start in FDI utilization

In January this year, the utilization of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Hunan Province was 377.59 million dollars, an increase of 277.8%, excluding banking, securities and insurance sectors, according to the local commerce authorities. The total amount and the growth rate ranked 9th and 3rd respectively in China.
In terms of industries, the actual FDI amount of Hunan’s manufacturing industry was 97.34 million dollars, an increase of 2482%, accounting for 25.8% of the province’s total.
The FDI actual use in the producer services industry was 170.51 million dollars, up 157.6%, accounting for 45% of the total. The actual use of FDI in high-tech sector increased by 825.4% year on year, accounting for 37.9% of the total.
As for investment sources, the capital mainly came from Hong Kong and the Netherlands. The FDI utilization from Hong Kong accounted for 77% of the total, and that from the Netherlands accounted for 21%.
Considering the regional distribution, the actual use of FDI in Changsha accounted for 92% of the province’s total.
In recent two years, the amount of FDI in the province has maintained a rapid growth. Statistics showed that the amount of FDI in the province reached 2.41 billion yuan last year, an increase of 72.3%, 52 percentage points higher than the national average.
There were 438 new foreign-funded enterprises, a rise of 63.4% year on year, which was 40 percentage points higher than the national average. Hunan is becoming increasingly attractive to foreign investment.
