Chenzhouxi Railway Station saw large passenger flows on February 15, which marks the Lantern Festival.
Zeng Weidong, who was supposed to go home from work, offered to work overtime considering the situation. It was his decision that enabled him to spend the festival together with his wife, who also works in the station, for the first time over the past eight years.
The couple work at two different positions, and it is always hard for them to meet each other.
They have taken on much work since the Spring Festival travel rush with an average of 224 trains involving 28,000 passengers run every day at the station.
As a passenger attendant, Mr. Zeng should watch closely all positions’ work, give work instructions and guide the passenger transport.
Not a single day from the Spring Festival to the Lantern Festival was available for Mr. Zeng to reunite with his families.
But his wife has been accustomed to it and said: “Holidays are the busiest time for us. We are couples and colleagues, and we should understand and support each other in life and work.
At lunch time, Mr. Zeng and his wife ate sweet glutinous dumplings together in the office.
There are other four couples like them, who work shoulder to shoulder to protect passengers from any travel risks.
