Tofu helps boost village development

2022-03-03

“We will harvest more than 15,000 kilograms of soybeans this year and sell them to Longtanwan Tofu Plant. By doing so, we can get an income of 100,000 yuan,” said Zhao Zhongsheng, an official from Shangjie Neighborhood Committee of Anping Township, Anren County, Chenzhou City.

Longtanwan has been famous for its tofu for more than 1,300 years. Thanks to the quality water, the Longtanwan tofu is tender and wouldn’t break even when cooked for a long time.

In light of basic conditions of Longtanwan, Shangjie established a company called Hunan Longtanquan Soybean Product Processing Company to achieve large-scale production of Longtanwan tofu and build a strong brand “Anpingsi Tofu”.

The company has invested 11 million yuan in the large-scale production of soybean products, of which the village collective has invested 400,000 yuan. It has created more than 100 jobs for people with an annual income of over 20,000 yuan.

Under the opportunity of developing high-quality farmland, Shangjie has transferred the land-use rights of 1,200 mu (80 hectares) farmland, which are transformed into quality farmland of a soybean planting base.

Moreover, it adopts a production mode of “production base + farmers + processing + sales”, under which soybeans from farmers of the committee are directly purchased and more than 300 jobs with an annual income of about 600 yuan are provided.

In 2022, Shangjie, with the goal of increasing farmers income and promoting the development of agriculture, rural areas and collective economy, would strive to build the processing company into a leading one in Hunan Province within three years and establish a logistics center to expand the scale of tofu industry.

“We are going to launch more projects for village collective economy. We will try our best to promote the development of tofu industry, thus increasing the income of our people and improving their living standards,” said Zhao with confidence.
