Volunteers from Zixing City Painter and Calligrapher Association brought a cultural feast for rural students living near the Dongjiang Lake.
When communicating with the kids, Mr Zhou, one of the volunteers, said that to write in cursing style requires harder foundation than to write regular script, so the primary school students should first practice regular script.
In the interaction with the volunteer teachers, the students actively shared what they have learned and how they felt.
Tan Fangpeng, principal of Qingjiang School, expressed his thanks to Zixing City Culture Center and Art Museum for organizing this activity. After the implementation of the "double reduction" policy, this school has lengthened the opening hours of extra-curricular reading rooms and set up after-school service programs such as calligraphy, art, music, dance, football and chess.
However, the students with lively nature were found unwilling to spend time on patience-requiring subjects such as calligraphy and art. This activity has not only brought nearly 100 paintings and calligraphy works to the school, but also played an important role in guiding the students by cultivating their taste and enhancing their sense of identity to traditional culture.
The activity has been carried out for 8 years, covering nearly 60 primary and middle schools in the city. So far, volunteers have taught calligraphy and painting skills to thousands of primary and secondary school students and more than 5,000 pieces of calligraphy and painting works have been donated to schools.
