Jiang Mengnan, a 30-year-old woman who was born in a small village of Chenzhou City, received the 2021 Touching China Award. After then, Chenzhou has organized various activities with the theme of learning from Jiang Mengnan.

The launching ceremony of activities of learning from Jiang Mengnan was held at Chenzhou No.6 Middle School, Jiang’s alma mater. Chenzhou would make full use of online and offline platforms to let more people know the story of Jiang Mengnan and guide teachers and students to put the spirit of Jiang into practice, thus creating a strong atmosphere for learning from Jiang in the city.

At the same day, Mingxing School located in Beihu Distrcit, Chenzhou City also held a launching ceremony of activities of learning from Jiang, where Jiang spent her three years of high school.

Jiang’s parents were invited by the two schools to relate how hard and difficult Jiang’s pursuit of study was.

Jiang was born in 1992 and she lost all her hearing due to severe nerve deafness caused by ototoxic drugs when she was six months old. Under the help of her parents, Jiang started to learn lip reading, which enabled her to overcome various difficulties in her life.

Jiang was enrolled in Chenzhou No. 6 Middle School after graduating from her primary school. In 2011, Jiang Mengnan graduated from Mingxing School and was admitted to Jilin University, where she got a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree. In May 2018, she was admitted as a doctoral candidate in the School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University.

Li Xue, the English teacher of Jiang in Chenzhou No.6 Middle School, commented that Jiang was an excellent, confident, and optimistic student with strong determination and perseverance.

Li said: “We are deeply touched by the story of Jiang Mengnan, which also brings us some kind of strong power. I wish that Mengnan would embrace a more wonderful life in the future. And more importantly, I hope that we, teachers, should stay true to our teaching aspirations, care for our students and let every student enjoy the happiness of being educated. With the example of Jiang Mengnan, we would go forward with great courage!”

Wang Haiping, the Chinese teacher of Jiang in Mingxing School, said: “Jiang Mengnan is a calm, smart and optimistic person with great dreams, a strong fighter who has the courage to fight against fate, and a model student who is honest and disciplined.” Wang reckoned that all students should take Jiang as their role model to pursue a better future.

Pang Tiantian, a student of Class 568, Chenzhou No. 6 Middle School, said that Jiang’s assiduity and persistence would encourage countless students to pursue their dreams with great courage.
