More than 3,000 students from Chenzhou No.12 Complete Primary School have been practicing the spirit of Lei Feng since 2019.
With the teaching theme of Lei Feng spirit, the primary school has called on its students to learn from Lei Feng. In June 2019, it was awarded “Lei Feng Primary School” by China Volunteer Service Foundation, China Volunteer Service Federation and the Publicity Department of Chenzhou. Numerous volunteer service signs and volunteer activity demonstration boards can be seen everywhere in the school. It has made every effort to appeal to and encourage its students to put the Lei Feng spirit into practice.
Li Yina, an 8-year-old student, is a member of a volunteer service project aiming to protect the environment of Chenjiang River, which ranks among “Hunan Provincial Excellent Volunteer Service Projects”. Li and her teammates are responsible for cleaning garbage in the river and on the banks. Since 2015, the volunteer team from Chenzhou No.12 Complete Primary School has been endeavoring to protect Chenjiang River, the “mother river” of Chenzhou City, for which it has won the titles of “Hunan Provincial Excellent Volunteer Team” and “Chenzhou Municipal Excellent Volunteer Team”. In addition, teachers and students of the school have raised more than 40,000 yuan to buy tree seedlings and flowers which were later planted in urban areas of Chenzhou.
Yang Zhinuo, a student in the sixth grade of the primary school, took the lead with her classmates in donating all the pocket money they have saved. “Little as my pocket money is, I believe that as long as everyone takes part in the activity, we will be able to build a better future.” Mao Lihong, head of the school, revealed that volunteers from the school had raised school supplies, daily necessities and donations worth a total of 280,000 yuan to help more than 1,000 needy people.
There is a notebook used to record good deeds of students in the school: Quan Kexin found a mobile phone on a bus and gave it back to the owner rather than hiding it; Zhou Yuchen of Grade 3 picked up a valuable watch on a bench and handed it over to community police station; Li Guanxing from Class 79 of Grade 4 found 100 yuan and gave it to the teacher instead of using it…..
Some students of the school received national and municipal awards for their good deeds, like the “National Young Pioneer”. “We sow the seeds of learning from Lei Feng, and believe that our students will do their best to put the spirit into practice,” said Huang Jie, vice principal of the primary school, which launches a wide variety of volunteer service activities. At present, the school boasts over 3,700 volunteers (including teachers, students and parents), who have conducted more than 180 voluntary activities with 3,000 hours of volunteering.
