“There is a bumper harvest of spring tea this year. All fresh tea leaves from our tea garden are sold here,” said a tea farmer from Chunfeng Village, Datang Town, Guidong County, Chenzhou City.
At the purchase station of Lanlaodie Tea Co., Ltd. in the town, tea farmers wearing masks queue up to sell tea leaves.
In the poverty alleviation workshop of Lanlaodie Tea, workers are busy testing, grading and cooling tea leaves, where these tea leaves will be made into green tea, black tea and white tea in accordance with different varieties.
The spring tea harvest coincided with the resurgence of the COVID-19 epidemic this year, which greatly affected the sales channels of tea leaves in southern Guidong County. In order to protect the interests of local farmers, Lanlaodie Tea decided to expand production and purchase tea leaves from tea farmers. The amount of tea leaves purchased this year far exceeded that of previous years.
"Protecting the interests of the farmers and serving the local economic development is the social responsibility we should take. The tea market is sluggish this year due to the COVID-19 epidemic, but we still purchase tea leaves at normal prices and increase production to prevent the majority of tea farmers from economic losses," said Lan Lili, general manager of the company.
Lanlaodie Tea has purchased 1,000-1,500 kg of tea leaves every day since March, and doubled its production, which effectively solved sales difficulties of tea leaves and prevented local tea farmers from great loss in southern Guidong.
