Chinese milk vetch, which can fix and produce nitrogen, is a quality organic fertilizer. Therefore, planting Chinese milk vetch is helpful for green food production and improving the quality of cultivated land.

The seed of green manure is usually sowed after the autumn harvest and is able to grow in the dry field. Chinese milk vetch will increase organic matters of the soil after returning to the field and also can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers for it contains nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

"The soil is getting looser and more fertile. I planted more than 400 mu (about 26.6 hectares) of rice this year, and plan to increase the planting area next year," said Li Xiaolian, a rice grower.
