New forest fire monitoring and warning platform put into operation

2022-04-22

Recently, the forest fire multi-source remote sensing monitoring and warning information platform developed by the geographical information research team of Central South University of Forestry and Technology has been officially put into operation in the Forest Fire Control Command Center of Hunan Province.

The platform can scan the whole province every 15 minutes, which greatly improves the capacity for early warning of forest fires and ensure the forest safety in Hunan.

According to professor Zhang Gui, also director of the Teaching Center of National Forest Fire Prevention Virtual Simulation Laboratory, the platform combines the remote sensing data from polar orbit meteorological satellite and that from stationary meteorological satellite and adopts the geographical spatial modeling, data mining and artificial intelligence technology, so as to realize the all-weather, whole-airspace and large-scale monitoring and real-time risk warning for forest fires. Accurate and staff-free, it has made the automatic monitoring, processing and alarming of forest fires possible.
