On April 19, Fu Ducheng, a grain farmer of Qiyunfeng Village, Dongluo Town, Guidong County said confidently that he transferred 80 mu (about 5.33 hectares) of paddy fields in the village to plant high-quality rice this year.
The yield of fine rice per mu reaches about 200 kilograms with a price of 30 yuan per kilogram. Supported by various sales channels and subsidies and industrial awards to grain farmers in the village, the revenue is expected to reach nearly 500,000 yuan this year.
In recent years, Dongluo Town has actively implemented the national food security strategy by encouraging villagers to transfer land to major grain farmers, and subsidizing and rewarding grain farmers in order to effectively deal with those uncultivated rural land.
Up to now, Dongluo Town has transferred land of 3,000 mu (200 hectares) in total and planted high-quality rice of 1,000 mu (about 66.7 hectares), which is irrigated by spring water,.
In addition to the rice, the town also develops vegetables industry and Chinese herbal medicine industry. At Fangxing vegetable planting base in Dongluo Town, the blue vegetable greenhouses stretch as far as the eye can see and about 40 villagers work here all year round.
In the past three years, the base has been expanded from the original 100 mu (about 6.7 hectares) to the present 300 mu (20 hectares), with more than 300 vegetable greenhouses, which can produce an annual output value of more than 6 million yuan and wages of over 600,000 yuan for the workers.
In the Dongshan forest farm of Dongluo Town, forest workers are growing many kinds of Chinese herbal medicine in the areas that suffered from overexploitation in the previous years.
This year, combining with its own advantages and the actual situation, the town vigorously develops Chinese herbal medicine by providing subsidies of 200 yuan per mu for farmers who grow Chinese herbs in forest areas, and investing in industrial infrastructure.
Now, the farmland for Chinese herbal medicine has increased by over 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares). Local Chinese herbal medicine industry is becoming a new path to increase people’s income.
So far, Dongluo Town has built a total of 5,000 mu (about 333.33 hectares) of high-standard farmland, 2,500 mu (about 166.67 hectares) of Chinese herbal medicine, 320 vegetable greenhouses, 6 family farms and 23 professional cooperatives.
