Special Fruit Promotion & Loquat Tasting held in Chukou town

On May 4, Zixing City held the Dongjiang Lake (Chukou) Special Fruit Promotion & Loquat Tasting. After the selection and preliminary evaluation, 18 farmers from Chukou Town entered the final competition for their high-quality loquats.

During the tasting, five agricultural experts selected the “king of loquat” which was large, good in appearance, fruity and sweet through color observation, weighing and sugar detection.
 
Chen Wancai, a 52-year-old grower who has more than 30 years of fruit growing experience, took the crown with his carefully cultivated five-star loquat.

Chen Wancai is a resident of Gaowan Village, Chukou Town. After taking the honor, He is more confident about the prospect of fruit growing and plans to plant more loquats and improve the fruit quality to increase his income next year. 
 
He received orders of 1,000 kg loquat with a price of 30 yuan/kg on the morning of May 4.
 
As the main water source for Chenzhou City and the strategic water source for Hunan Province, Dongjiang Lake enjoys superb ecological advantages and unique geographical and climatic conditions.
 
In recent years, Zixing City has actively encouraged the people in the reservoir area to focus on the development of tangerine and other characteristic fruit industry, and has made great efforts in high-quality orchards to build agricultural brands such as “Dongjiang fruit” and increase people’s income.

Nearly 200,000 mu (about 13,333.3 hectares) of Dongjiang tangerine, Dongjiang pear, yellow peach, loquat and other fruits have been planted in the villages and towns around the Dongjiang Lake with an annual output of 280,000 tons and an annual output value of 1.5 billion yuan.
 
Dongjiang tangerine has become the Chinese geographical indication-protected product and the regional public brand of national famous fruit.
 
Chukou Town, located in the hinterland of Dongjiang Lake, gradually developed an industrial layout with citrus fruit as major products and other characteristic fruit industries competing with each other by continuously consolidating the agricultural industry and steadily improving its quality and transformation on the basis of local advantageous ecological condition, leading the villagers to a better-off life. 
 
However, limited by the special traffic conditions, the high-quality agricultural products in the town still face difficulty in transportation and sale.
 
Last July, the town held a golden prunus salicina tasting, which helps to sell 1 million kilograms of prunus salicina via both online and offline channels, increase the income by 10 million yuan and the sale of characteristic fruit like yellow peach up to 500 thousand kilograms.
 
This activity not only enhanced the reputation of Chukou Town, but also promoted agricultural efficiency, people’s income and rural prosperity.
 
“This year, we learned about the public concerns about fruit sales during the visit, so we decided to hold the special fruit promotion and loquat tasting to further relieve their worries and boost the rural revitalization,” said Li Jinwei, party secretary of Chukou Town.
 
He noted that during the tasting, three Internet-famous teams sold products via livestreaming and four enterprises signed fruit supply and marketing agreements with the cooperatives and individual farmers in the town. 
 
The sales channels for fruit in Chukou Town was indeed further expanded through this activity.
