If you climb on the Wanfeng Temple in Dasi Village, Xiangyindu Sub-district, Yongxing County, and look around in the rain season, you can see the expanse of green bamboo forest, folk houses near the mountain and gurgling rivers, presenting a tranquil and peaceful scene of rural life in the sea of bamboo.

Dasi Village, located in the mountainous area in the north of Xiangyindu Sub-district, has more than 7,000 mu (about 467 hectares) of bamboo forest. The gurgling West River runs through it.

In recent years, Dasi Village has relied on ecological advantages and taken the opportunity of the demonstration belt along the West River to accelerate the progress of rural revitalization.

“If you stand on Wanfeng Temple after rain, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the bamboo sea. The hundreds of acres of wild bamboo are the reason we have great confidence in rural revitalization,” said Chen Liangbin, party secretary of Dasi Village.

At present, Dasi Village is fully digging out the cultural characteristics of Wanfeng Temple with a history of more than 1,300 years. It plans to combine the advantages of the sea of bamboo in Dasi Village adjacent to Cai Lun Bamboo Sea in Leiyang City to build a beautiful tourist village integrating leisure, cultural tourism, and ecological sightseeing.

In the past few years, Dasi Village has strengthened the construction of public infrastructure, improved the appearance of the village, and upgraded the level of governance.

In 2020, Dasi Village widened and hardened the road from three meters to five meters, and the buses were opened in the village. In 2021, the road in Dasi Village was afforested, beautified and lightened. Under the action to improve residential environment carried out by Xiangyindu Sub-district, dry latrines and houses that were vacant, old and abandoned were demolished to improve environmental sanitation.

Nowadays, the beautification and greening around villagers’ houses are under way. Urban Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd. organizes their staff to implement the overall planning of Dasi Village, upgrade its infrastructure and facilities, striving to make it an ecologically livable and beautiful village, as well as a demonstration site for rural revitalization.

Great changes in living environment give Dasi Village a new look. The clean village road is shaded by luxuriant trees on both sides.

Only industrial development can lead villagers on the way toward wealth. Chen Liangbin said that Dasi Village would exert its advantage of bamboo. Chen and the leadership in Dasi Village went out for an investigation and planned to introduce an enterprise that produces bamboo products this year. Thus, the bamboos in the mountain can be turned into great fortune, and the channels for villagers to increase their income will be broadened.

At the end of last year, Dasi Village introduced investors, leased 200 mu (about 13.3 hectares) of land along the West River through land transfer, and planted Hunan lotus. When the lotus flowers bloom in summer and autumn, many tourists will be drawn to visit here.

“Our goal is to increase villagers’ income and improve their life quality through rural tourism”, Chen said. Dasi Village plans to revitalize idled houses to build high-quality homestay inns; develop such traditional agriculture as oil tea, medicinal materials and sweet oranges, as well as such special fancy fruit as mulberry, blueberry and kiwi fruit, which will attract more visitors.
