Jiahe County strengthens meteorological support for farming

2022-05-19

In recent years, the Meteorological Bureau in Jiahe County has fully played its role in the meteorological disaster prevention and reduction and proactively responded to meteorological disasters like torrential rain.

“The signal for torrential rain in our county can be issued six hours in advance, and the imminent disaster warning of severe convection weather can be issued 30-40 minutes in advance. The meteorological forecast is gradually extended from the traditional one to the early-warning of meteorological disaster,” said Liu Suping, director of Meteorological Bureau in Jiahe County.

He said that the improvement of predictability in meteorological monitoring and warning was the basic skills of the meteorological department.

Meanwhile, Jiahe County has established a seamless network among counties, townships (towns) and villages, with 207 meteorological informants, working together with disaster emergency informants, township safety officers and geological disaster patrolmen in the grid social governance system to make meteorological information available in villages and households.

At present, the county has built 29 ground meteorological observation stations, two small stations on farmland, two traffic meteorological observation stations, a flood-drought hazard service platform, a geological disaster meteorological risk service system, and an agrometeorological service official account. The accuracy of torrential rain early-warning can reach 89%.

In recent years, the Meteorological Bureau in Jiahe County has clarified responsibilities, improved the working system and refined practical service rules and contents by focusing on disaster prevention and reduction.

The bureau, aimed at serving “agriculture, rural area and farmer”, has effectively strengthened the meteorological support and service for key areas of grain production, and for farming seasons.
