Linwu Nuo Opera Troupe gave a performance in Youwan Village, Shuidong Town, Linwu County, Hunan Province on May 17 to pray for peace and prosperity.
With a history of more than 500 years, Linwu Nuo Opera originated from Youwan Village, Shuidong Town, Linwu County. Dubbed as “god lion” by locals, it represents people’s pursuit of a well-off life by means of pray and vows in the name of villages, family or individuals.
The whole performance is simple and amazing, integrating the elements of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian culture and featuring mysterious witchcraft culture of Chu. It presents not only the ancient opera, but also the characteristics of Linwu County.
Linwu Nuo Opera has been included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
