Mulberry, new industry for rural development

Mulberries in Guofeng Mulberry Orchard, Guiyang County, Chenzhou are already ripe, attracting numerous visitors to come for picking.

Farmers and visitors carrying baskets in their hands are plucking the purple mulberries. The ripe mulberries scent the air. People taste the mulberries while picking them, enjoying the countryside tour in early summer.
 
Guofeng Mulberry Orchard covers an area of 1,573 mu (about 105 hectares) and produces sweet and juicy fruits. At present, mulberry trees are in the growth period with a yield of around 500-800 kg per mu (666.6 square meters) and it is expected to enter the full production period after 3 years.

"Besides picking mulberries, we also produce mulberry wine and tea and create featured products, leading the surrounding villagers to a better life." said Yuan Xin, general manager of Guofeng Mulberry Orchard.
 
In recent years, Guiyang County has developed in a faster speed because of its advantage in transportation such as the adjacent airport and high-speed railway.

The implementation of rural revitalization strategy and the establishment of such a pilot area have provided opportunities for the development of towns and villages in Guiyang County. Now a number of youths were attracted to come back and they began to develop suburban agriculture and greenhouse orchards.
