Citizens realize dream of being farm owners

2022-05-28

A cult business simulation game “QQ Farm”, where players can plant and harvest various vegetables and fruits as they like, comes true in Zhaihou Village, Jinping Town, Jiahe County, where citizens can become real farm owners by “claiming” a plot of land.

Located in Zhaihou Village, Jinping Town, Jiahe County at the foot of Nanling Mountains, the farm boasts excellent ecological environment suitable for the growth of high-quality rice, such as fertile land, rich springs, and a “microclimate” with a large temperature difference between day and night. It is the planting base of Zhaihou rice, a local product which won the honorary title of “one village, one product” in China and the inscription of Academician Yuan Longping.

In order to boost the rural revitalization strategy and strengthen the collective economy, Zhaihou Village cooperated with Zhaihou Rice Company in encouraging people to claim farmland in the rice planting base.

The activity adopts an industrial development mode of “Party branch + company + farmer” to stimulate the vitality of rural development and improve collective economy.

During the trial run, people who yearn for rural life can feel the joy of planting and harvesting with their own hands in 20 mu (about 1.3 hectares) of land, a “paradise” away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

“One person can claim 160 square meters of land and it costs 999 yuan a year. In the harvest season, we will give 50 kilograms of Zhaihou rice as a gift,” said a director of the Party branch of Zhaihou Village.

And the farm now welcomes citizens to claim land via Wechat or telephones.

In addition, tools, seeds, water, organic fertilizers and other items for land management are available for free on the farm. It also provides agricultural technology consultancy services and planting guidance, implements centralized seedling raising and seedling distribution. The farmer will get a one-year lease on the land, and during the tenancy, if there is no time to take care of land in the short or long term, the farm can take on the farm work.

“At the weekend, I will take my children to experience farm life here, so that they can both feel the joy of labor and cherish hard-won food.” This move has been greatly appreciated by the public. So far, more than 30 citizens have successfully claimed the land and become real-life “QQ farmers”.
