A voluntary service activity was held in Longwangmiao Park on June 4 to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.
Accompanied by melodious ancient music, the sacrifice officially kicked off. On the main altar, there was a pair of red candles, three incense sticks and simple ancient utensils laden with Zongzi, fruit, rice wine and other offerings. Flags in the shape of fish and dragon fluttered in the wind. Reading the funeral oration alone in the drizzle reminded of the sacrificial scene of greeting the god thousands of years ago. And the three bows expressed Rucheng people’s common wish for well-being, good weather, peace and joy.
In order to present an authentic Dragon Boat Festival of ancient times, volunteers choreographed a cultural performance closely related to the theme in the form of dances and songs, including the song Li Sao (or The Song of Desperation written by a great poet Qu Yuan), and the dance Satire on Fair Ladies (a poem written by Du Fu, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty) and a Hanfu show.
During the activity, girls dressed in Hanfu taught people to make Zongzi with reed leaves, glutinous rice, red dates and other ingredients available on the site. The elders were generous in teaching while the young were diligent in learning, all of whom were overwhelmed with happiness. Hundreds of Zongzi were made in just one hour. Although Zongzi came in different shapes and sizes, people were still in high spirits with a smile of satisfaction.
