On June 28, along the Xihe River in Taihe Village, Xujiadong Town, Suxian District, a thin bamboo pole was wrapped with a layer of red paper, printed with three large words—"life-saving pole".
It is currently the summer vacation period and summer drowning prevention is high on the agenda. To ensure that children are kept away from drowning accidents and their personal safety, all towns and villages along the Xihe River in Suxian District have placed two or three bamboo poles with a length of 6 to 7 meters at important positions for emergency rescue of children who fall into the water.
A staff member said: "the bamboo pole should be as long as possible, and it is better to have a length of 9 meters. The two ends should be flat, otherwise the rescued people will be scratched. It should also be covered with warning signs to strictly prohibited for other uses. Besides the bamboo poles, life buoys, life lines, safety warning signs in key waters and so on have all been in place."
