The scientific name of “fish scale clouds” is altocumulus translucidus. This kind of cloud is generally produced when the air over 5,000 meters high and below 2,500 meters is relatively dry, while the middle layer between 2,500 and 5,000 meters is relatively wet. As long as the atmospheric movement achieves this condition, this kind of clouds can appear at any season.

 

 

 

 

But in general, this is more common in autumn and early winter. The appearance of such clouds is a sign that the weather will be clear, which will last two to three days. And when the fish scale clouds accumulate to a certain level, they will become rainfall clouds.
