The Xihe River flows northward about 140 kilometers into the Leishui River at the Xihe Estuary of Bianjiang Sub-district, Yongxing County. Xihe Village is named after its location at the Xihe Estuary.
After entering the village, you will see the magnificent “Sanhou Memorial Temple” which was built to commemorate Wang Ling, Zhou Bo and Fan Kuai of the Han Dynasty, who came to Chenzhou to pay homage to Emperor Yi at the request of the emperor of Han.
During the Double Ninth Festival every September, people will gather in the temple to offer incense and pray. On the day of sacrifice, the organizer will also present performances such as Flower-drum Opera and Qi Opera to promote fine traditional Chinese culture.
In 2012, the Chongyang Temple Fair of the “Sanhou Memorial Temple” in Yongxing County was selected into the list of intangible cultural heritage in Hunan Province.
Due to water transport, Xihe Village has seen prosperous economy in recent years and passed down the tradition of holding dragon boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival.
For more than a hundred years, on the Dragon Boat Festival every year, villagers will hold dragon boat races to commemorate Qu Yuan and pray for good weather. The dragon boat race on the Xihe River was selected as a municipal-level intangible cultural heritage project in 2017.
The houses of villagers are distributed on both sides of the Xihe River, and the Xihe Estuary Bridge connects these houses. The well-illustrated posters about legal publicity on the 100-meter bridge remind villagers to abide by the law.
This year, more than 20,000 square meters of dilapidated houses have been demolished in Xihe Village. A new leisure square and 22 new residential buildings have been under construction. The bamboo fences make orchards and vegetable gardens eye-catching. 100 mu (6.67 hectares) of pomelos of Guanghong Agricultural Specialized Cooperative are now reaping a bumper harvest. Nourished by rural culture, the villagers in Xihe have made joint efforts to steadily promote rural revitalization.
