Wormwood helps boost village economy

Rural revitalization depends on industry, and industrial development must have its own characteristics. Caojiaben Village of Yizhang County, Chenzhou City has made great efforts to promote the development of wormwood industry, and initially formed a whole industrial chain of wormwood planting, production, processing and sales, blazing a new trail in economic development.

After the wormwood processing plant was built in the village, some villagers who had gone out to do migrant work returned to their hometown to plant wormwood. Since the enterprise will purchase wormwood at an agreed price, the villagers don’t have to worry about sales.

Wormwood not only smells good, but also has the effect of dispelling cold and removing dampness, warming channel for arresting bleeding. It is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb that is easy to grow and has high added values.

In order to boost the village collective economy, CaojiabenVillage, based on its rich mountain resources, has established an industrialized business model of “Party branch+company+base+farmer”, and introduced wormwood seedlings from Qichun County, the hometown of Li Shizhen (a famous medicinal herb expert during the Ming Dynasty).

A wormwood planting base of more than 2,000 mu (about 133.33 hectares) and a processing plant covering an area of over 8,000 square meters, which can process and produce wormwood pillow and moxa stick, have been built.

The products are sold to the whole country through online and offline platforms. The sales revenue is expected to reach more than 3 million yuan this year. The wormwood industry will provide jobs for over 200 villagers and bring more than 50,000 yuan of operating income to the village collective economy.

Next, the village will expand the wormwood leaf industry, increase planting area and improve the service for the wormwood leaf processing enterprises, in a bid to create more job opportunities and promote the sustainable growth of the village collective economy.
