Anling Academy is located on the bank of Bianjiang River, covering an area of more than 75 mu (50,000 square meters) and a construction area of more than 80,000 square meters. The academy was named after the county’s ancient name—Anling. 

 

 

It was once the first academy in southern Hunan province. It has the reputation of “Yuelu Academy in North Hunan and Anling Academy in South Hunan”. Famous scholars like Zhu Xi, Wang Shouren and Zuo Zongtang once taught here. 

 

 

The lighting and landscaping will be upgraded on the basis of the original academy. The quality of the study rooms, facilities and access roads will also be improved. The total cost is about 60 million yuan. 

 

 

The academy will retain the classical architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, with artificial hills, waterfalls, pavilions, rooms for lyre-playing, chess, calligraphy and painting, a theater and a library. It can provide lectures and accommodation for 150 people. A fine traditional Chinese academy integrating cultural and economic workshops, cultural and artistic exchanges, leisure and vacation will be built.
