Hunan’s athletic talents play an important role in Hunan Sports and China Weightlifting Team. Their achievements are attributed to a group of primary-level weightlifting coaches with sharp eyes and great ability.

 

 

In the weightlifting training room of the No. 3 Middle School of Guiyang County, the students were practicing the tricks with sweat pouring off. And the coach was patiently correcting their mistakes and protecting them.

 

The training room, which covers an area of less than 150 square meters, is the starting point of Olympic champions Hou Zhihui and other athletes to realize their dreams.

 

Guiyang County organized a weightlifting team of the spare-time sports school in 1999. The county jointly runs the school with the No. 3 Middle School of Guiyang County to select the young weightlifting talent and seek a new path in integrating sports and education. At present, the spare-time school has four professional weightlifting coaches and 40 athletes in training.

 

 

“The most important work of spare-time sports school is to select promising young talent,” said Coach Li Zhiping, adding that most athletes are selected at a young age. He also explored a set of special ways to select talent. The excellent athletes in the training will be recommended to the provincial weightlifting team for a trial period.

 

According to Li Zhiping, teenagers are trained in their spare time during the semester. The training time is not less than three hours a day, and the vacation time for coaches is less than 20 days all year round. 

 

So far, Guiyang County has received 346.5 medals from all kinds of sports events. Among them, the county, securing 62 golds at international level, 58 gold medals at national level, and 64.5 gold medals at provincial level, is known as the “City of Champions”.
