Cao Zhibiao, 43 years old, is the manager of the blueberry base. In 2016, he contracted 10 mu (about 0.67 hectares) of barren land on the mountain to plant blueberries. After several years of careful management, his blueberry base is now flourishing.

 

 

Although the blueberries are growing well in Cao’s blueberry base, it’s no easy thing as blueberries have very strict requirements for soil, water, and other conditions, and the management needs great manpower and material resources. Cao even went to other places to learn blueberry planting technology and constantly consulted agricultural experts for their exuberant growth.

 

 

“In the process of blueberry cultivation management, we have always adhered to refined management based on the concept of green, health, and safety. Unlike other fruit tree planting methods, except for pruning during the winter dormant period, it also needs to maintain water and deep application with farm manure such as sheep manure and cow dung, as well as organic fertilizer every day,” said Cao. The daily artificial weeding and physical pest control create a natural and green environment for the growth of organic blueberries, making blueberries a pure natural and ecological fruit.

 

Besides the hard work of planting, picking blueberries also requires skills. Blueberries are small and delicate, so you can’t pull it hard when picking and you have to be careful when putting them into the basket. In order to keep the blueberries fresh, Cao Zhibiao gave up sales channels and allowed tourists to pick them in the garden.

 

 

When asked about his future plans, Cao Zhibiao said, “We will further expand the scale of blueberry planting. In addition to packaging fresh fruit for the market, we will also build deep processing production lines for dried fruits, preserved fruits, beverages, and blueberry wine, so as to realize an industrial chain that integrates blueberry seedling cultivation, planting, processing and sightseeing.”
