In the muskmelon field of Deng Yunyang, a big grower in Qianjia’an Village, Changcun Township, Yizhang County, farmers were busy picking, cleaning, sorting, and packing muskmelons.
Industrial prosperity is the key to rural revitalization. With the help of the grassroots Party organization, Deng Yunyang established a fruit and vegetable planting base covering 30 mu (2 hectares) through land transfer in early 2022. Different fruit and vegetable varieties are planted in batches every year.
This is the third round of harvest, as he has planted vegetables and Yinhui muskmelons in rotation. Influenced by heavy rainfall, the yield of muskmelons per mu (0.067 hectares) has decreased to around 1,000 kg this year, and the market price is stable at 4 to 5 yuan per kilogram. They are sold to Lianzhou and Foshan, Guangdong Province.
Last year, the average collective economic income of the six administrative villages in Changcun Township reached 363,000 yuan. Apart from Qianjia’an Village, Changqi and Changcun villages also plant muskmelons.
This year, there are 8 large muskmelon growers in the township, with a planting area of 320 mu (about 21.33 hectares). The agricultural planting industry helped local growers increase income, provided job opportunities for the surplus rural population, and allowed villagers to work near their homes.
