Tourism in Chenzhou, Hunan province, has witnessed a robust boom since the summer holiday thanks to the local ecological environment and high-quality development that jointly create harmonious coexistence between people and nature.

Yangtian Lake grassland is the southernmost highland grassland in China. Due to excessive development and overgrazing in the past, the grassland suffered from damage, desertification and soil erosion.

Through measures such as banning grazing and ecological restoration, the water area of Yangtian Lake has increased from more than 1.33 hectares to nearly 4.67 hectares, and the grassland coverage rate has increased from 64 percent to 91 percent. Now, tourists can enjoy the beautiful scenery while horseback riding.

The Gaoyiling Danxia landform is nonrenewable. In recent years, Suxian district of Chenzhou has implemented projects such as banning waste discharge, landform restoration, soil covering, vegetation transplantation and river cleaning to significantly improve the soil and water quality and increase vegetation.

At the same time, by introducing market entities to develop scenic spots relying on the unique Danxia landscape of Gaoyiling, a 4A-level scenic spot has been created. Nowadays, Gaoyiling is crowded with tourists during holidays.

711 Time Town, located in Suxian, was once a dilapidated mine area, but now it has become a cultural landmark in Chenzhou.

The town is located in the former State-owned 711 mine, which was the first large-scale uranium mine discovered and explored in China.

From 1963, it provided more than 4 million metric tons of qualified raw materials for the development of China's first atomic bomb, first hydrogen bomb and first nuclear submarine. It was hailed as the "first meritorious uranium mine in China's nuclear industry". The mine was closed in 2004.

In recent years, Chenzhou has developed and constructed the town, transforming the idle and dilapidated industrial mining area into the country's first military-themed immersive experiential tourist destination. The town includes functional areas such as research and study bases, hot spring healthcare and cultural and creative businesses. Walking through the town, it feels like traveling back to the industrial town of the 1950s and 1960s.

Chenzhou is known as the "hometown of non-ferrous metals in China". Although a typical resource-based city, it adheres to the priority of ecological protection and green development. Chenzhou, as an important ecological barrier in South China and a strategic water resource area in Hunan, always puts ecological civilization construction into the overall plan for high-quality development and modernization.

It closely follows the national sustainable development demonstration area's theme of "sustainable use of water resources and green development", makes breakthroughs in scientific and technological innovation, institutional innovation and green development, and strives to build the brand of "Chenzhou good water, more beautiful life".

Dongjiang Lake, which stores over 8 billion cubic meters of water all year round, is sparkling with light and surrounded by green mountains. Driving downstream, there is the Dongjiang Lake Big Data Center.
