Now, more than 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of pomelos in Qingshui Village, Yuxi Town, Yizhang County are ripe. The trees in the orchard are covered with pomelos, and fruit farmers are busy picking and transporting pomelos.
Each heavy pomelos is like a yellow lantern hanging on the branch, making it particularly tempting under the sunlight, with grapefruit fragrance in the air.
The pomelo grower Wu Biao has adopted green planting and applied natural farmyard manure, and so his fruits have thin skin, solid flesh, crystal red color and delicious taste, which are highly favored by consumers.
He said that the trees can bear more pomelos with sufficient water content and good taste.
There are red pomelos, white pomelos and other varieties in his orchard. This year, the pomelos expect a bumper harvest due to the good weather, and the price is relatively higher compared to before.
After deducting various costs like labor, there is still a surplus. It’s much better to start a business at home than to work out of hometown.
“About 100 kg of pomelos are produced per tree. I plant over ten mu (0.67 hectares) of pomelo trees, and the annual income can reach 40,000 to 50,000 yuan. Excluding labor costs, I can still earn around 30,000 yuan,” Wu Biao said happily.
