Hecheng navel oranges from Chenzhou Zhanxiang Green Agriculture Company are popular among Hong Kong tourists. Since its establishment in Yizhang County, Chenzhou City, the company has focused on ecological priority and green development to promote quality and efficiency of modern agriculture.

The company’s brand “Hecheng” has been recently approved as the 2023 Hong Kong New Star Brand, becoming the first fruit brand to receive this honor in Hong Kong.
At the seedling base of the company, workers are busy packing and delivering navel orange seedlings, preparing to replant them in various bases of the company.
The “nutrition cup” below each seedling is a plastic seedling container independently developed by the company. Compared with traditional black film seedling containers, this type of container has such advantages as space saving, strong air permeability and being easy to observe growth.
“This is a seedling retrieval device for the seedling containers. With just a gentle upward push, we can clearly observe the soil and the growth of the roots,” a staff said at the seedling base.
The quality of navel oranges is strictly controlled by Zhanxiang Green Agriculture from seedling cultivation. Every fruit tree has its own “number”, which is easy to trace identity information. Earthworm manure is applied for trees, with no pesticides and fertilizers. There are over 100 people responsible for weeding.
It built a leading intelligent sorting production line in China and cooperated with Aliyun.com to build a digital orchard management system.
Although the planting cost has greatly increased with these intelligent, digital and modern green ecological recycling planting models, the price is far higher than ordinary navel oranges.
The navel oranges planted by the company are sold individually in Hong Kong, with a price of up to HKD 15 for one orange.
Huang Lihua, deputy general manager of the company, said that through green planting, its navel oranges are very popular in Hong Kong.
A HK resident Li Daode established an ecological recycling planting base in Yizhang County in 2010. After over a decade of development, there are now 10 navel orange planting bases with a planting area of over 20,000 mu (1,333 hectares).
In 2019, Zhanxiang Green Agriculture was recognized as the “vegetable basket” production base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It produced about 5 million kg of navel oranges last year.
“We will always adopt a green ecological cycle model to plant navel oranges in the construction of digital, intelligent and modern orchards.” Li Daode, chairman of Zhanxiang Green Agriculture hoped that its navel oranges can not only be favored by HK citizens, but also be sold worldwide.
