Dawan Village in Guiyang County has a history of more than 670 years. There are many civil and military officials, with 37 officials above the fifth grade, and more than 80 traditional “courtyard houses” during the Ming and Qing dynasties in the village.

 

Among them, Bangyandi, the Former Residence of Xia Shi and Xia Shoutian (famous officials of the Qing Dynasty), is a five-dimensional courtyard with an area of 2,276 square meters, and also a typical building with unique characteristics in southern Hunan. Together with the Xia’s Family Ancestral Hall, it is included in the list of provincial-level cultural relics protection units.

 

 

In recent years, based on the excellent traditional culture, the village has improved the living environment, infrastructure, renovated Bangyandi, launched the display and utilization work of Bangyandi, and published books such as “Empirical Research on Chinese Traditional Villages - Dawan Village” as well as “Biography of Xia Shoutian”, and made original songs like “Beautiful Dawan” by raising more than 10 million yuan, bringing the traditional village and cultural relics to life.

 

In addition, the village has built a base for traditional Chinese medicine, cultural heritage, primary and secondary school student education, and all-for-one tourism services, created an ancient village, residence, theater, and academy, and developed the brands of architecture, imperial examinations, farming and integrity culture.
