In recent years, Qingshan Township has made efforts to develop the traditional Chinese medicinal materials industry, with more than 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares) of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs such as holly roots and golden cypress, forming a characteristic industrial pattern based on traditional Chinese medicinal herbs supplemented by bamboo and Chinese firs.
Lack of knowledge and technology in the cultivation of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs led to their unsatisfactory growth.
In order to solve the difficulties encountered by villagers during the planting process, Qingshan Township has organized 20 agricultural technicians to explain planting techniques, distribute planting manuals, and guide farmers to carry out spring plowing.
They walked into the fields, learning about spring farming in details, publicizing policies that benefit farmers and instructing farmers to plant golden cypress and holly root.
At the same time, opinions and suggestions from the public on government services, industrial development, project construction, and other aspects have been collected. They have worked as a “guide” for industrial development and a “server” for spring farming.
“I didn’t know much about planting techniques and scientific management before. I was worried for a long time as my holly roots weren’t even half as tall as those planted by others. Fortunately, the township government gave me technical guidance, and there are detailed instructions on when to plant, when to water and fertilize, and how to manage them in the technical manual,” said a villager from Caidong Village.
He Xianwei, head of Qingshan Township, said that Qingshan Township will continue efforts to develop characteristic industries such as traditional Chinese medicinal herbs and phyllostachys pubescens to increase villagers’ income through planting technology training, supply guarantee of agricultural materials, and implementation of agricultural policies benefiting farmers.
