On May 6, 2019, the State Council approved the construction of the National Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation Demonstration Area in Chenzhou City with the theme of sustainable utilization of water resources and green development. 

 

Chenzhou has continued efforts to solve typical problems of sustainable development, cultivate new economic drivers, and enhance the happiness of the people. Zixing City has built the Dongjianghu Big Data Industrial Park based on cold water resources. After 200,000 racks in the park operate in full load, it can save 5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually, equivalent to a reduction of 1.77 million tons of standard coal consumption and a reduction of 5.52 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

 

Gaoyi Ridge in Suxian District was once a waste and slag disposal site for thermal power plants, with vegetation damage and severe soil erosion. The local government has established a circular economy industrial park around the thermal power plant to develop and produce new building materials. At the same time, efforts have been made to restore landscapes, cover soil, transplant vegetation, and clean up rivers. 

 

Gaoyi Ridge has transformed from a waste ash discharge site to a national 4A-level tourist attraction. It ranks second in the list of “Top 20 Favorite Scenic Areas in Hunan for Tourists from the Greater Bay Area”, with the annual ticket revenue of over 100 million yuan.

 

Last year, the International Forum on Sustainable Utilization and Green Development of Water Resources was held in Chenzhou. The Chenzhou Water World, the first exhibition hall in China with the theme of “Sustainable Utilization of Water Resources and Green Development”, has been established. Besides, Chenzhou has released the first “Dongjiang Lake Declaration” with the National Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation Demonstration Area as the main body, and proposed the goals of sustainable utilization of water resources and green development.

 

Chenzhou has achieved rich results in the last five years. It has been honored for the construction of ecological civilization, and created a “national water-saving city” as well as 26 provincial-level beautiful rivers and lakes, with Dongjiang Lake selected as an excellent case of national beautiful rivers and lakes. Chenzhou High-tech Zone and Economic Development Zone have been approved as national green industrial parks. 

 

In addition, Chenzhou has added 26 provincial-level and above green factories, including 9 national green factories. The comprehensive utilization rate of industrial solid waste has reached over 80%.
