2024-07-21

At the Angelica Root medicinal base of Anping Town, Anren County, dozens of farmers were busy transplanting late rice and planting sweet potatoes, while harvesting Angelica roots.

This is a new achievement of Anren Puli Agricultural Development Company, led by He Zhixiong, a returned youth, to build a city of medicinal materials and empower rural revitalization.

In recent years, the county government has focused on the goal of enriching villagers and strengthening the county through TCM medicinal materials. While planting over 200,000 mu (about 13,333 hectares) of TCM medicinal materials, the county has also vigorously promoted herb-rice rotation and understory intercropping to help farmers improve efficiency and increase benefits.

Therefore, the county government has launched relevant policies. Now, the county has established over 200 bases, injecting strong impetus into the high-quality development of TCM medicinal materials.

In July 2022, He Zhixiong, together with funds and technology, set up a modern TCM company with high technology and high economic values with his classmates.

After careful investigation, research, and scientific demonstration, they quickly selected the barren mountains and wastelands at the junction of Shimen Village in Anping Town and Shenzhou Village in Pailou Township to build a Chinese herbal medicine planting base covering an area of 3,000 mu (200 hectares).

After four months of efforts, the base was built.

Based on environmental advantages such as soil, climate and water resources, they chose to plant Angelica Root, which can perfectly combine with the growth cycle of late rice and sweet potatoes.

The rotation of medicinal materials, grain and sweet potatoes not only helps prevent the use of arable land for non-farming purposes, but also solves the problem of the replanting of Angelica Root after three years.

At the same time, it has improved the utilization rate of land and led farmers to plant TCM medicinal materials with modern technologies.

This year, the company has planted over 1,200 mu (80 hectares) of Angelica Root with a yield of over 3,000 yuan per mu (0.067 hectares). With the income from rotation of grain and potatoes, the total income per mu (0.067 hectares) has reached over 4,000 yuan, helping 100 farmers increase income.

He Zhixiong led his team to achieve results in the rotation mode of TCM medicinal materials, grains and potatoes. Recently, the company signed contracts with more than 10 large households to increase the planting area of Angelica Root by 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares).

“We strive to expand the planting base to over 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) within three years, achieve an output value of over 100 million yuan and a profit of over 10 million yuan. We will also make contributions to Anren County’s effort to build a city of TCM medicinal materials and promote rural revitalization,” said He Zhixiong with confidence.
