Tanlingci Village in Bali Town of Yizhang County has made efforts to develop the ginger planting industry to further improve land utilization rate, and increase villagers’ income.
It is now a critical period for the management and protection of small yellow ginger.
With green ginger seedlings growing well, Li Huilin, together with villagers, was busy earthing up, fertilizing, and weeding in the small yellow ginger planting base of Tanlingci Village. Especially in the scorching summer, small yellow ginger is watered through the installed automatic sprinkler system.
“The ginger field needs watering appropriately every morning and evening. The soil should not be too thick for the air circulation because the roots also need to breathe.
Meanwhile, the base fertilizer should be supplemented properly, said Li Huilin, who operated the soil loosening machine.
The ginger industry, with high yield and considerable income, is a good choice to help farmers boost income. With the increasing market demand, the price of ginger has been rising year by year, stimulating farmers to plant ginger.
Last year, taking into account the characteristics of the climate and soil, Li Huilin transferred large areas of wasteland to plant small yellow ginger. This has improved land use efficiency and increased employment opportunities for laborers at home, which has also further strengthened the collective economy of Tanlingci Village.
At present, there are more than 40 mu (about 2.67 hectares) of small yellow ginger in the village, and it’s expected to reach an output of around 150,000 kilograms this year.
“The village will transfer more land to expand the scale of ginger planting in a bid to help villagers achieve employment at the doorstep and strengthen the village collective economy,” said Zhou Lefei, Party secretary of Tanlingci Village.
