A special promotion event for high-quality and characteristic agricultural products from poverty-stricken areas in Hunan province was held in Changsha on November 16. Rucheng Baimao Tea was promoted on the site.

 

 

 

Rucheng Baimao Tea is a rare and precious variety of large leaf hairy tea tree in China. Its leaves are as big as palms and covered in soft hairs, making it suitable for making white tea, black tea and broken black tea. 

 

In 1997, it won the gold medal at the Paris International Expo for Famous and New Products. It was certified as a GI agricultural product in 2021, and included on the national promotion list of native products in 2023. 

 

 

Academician Liu Zhonghua said that Rucheng Baimao Tea should be accurately positioned as the top level black tea in Hunan and top level white tea in the country. 

 

“It’s a great honor to promote Rucheng Baimao Tea at this special promotion event today.” Li Zhiguo, chairman of Hunan Mucaoren Tea Company, said that this further enhances his confidence and determination to make Rucheng Baimao Tea stronger. 

 

Now, the company is working to upgrade the production environment and intelligent equipment, to establish a dust-free production workshop, expecting to produce more and higher quality Rucheng Baimao Tea in a production environment with controlled temperature and humidity. 

 

The local government attaches great importance to the development of Rucheng Baimao Tea, with an area of over 15,000 mu (1,000 hectares) available for harvest.

 

 

Since 2021, the county government has allocated 10 million yuan annually to support the expansion of the area and increase production of Rucheng Baimao Tea, and established a command center responsible for specific tasks, including variety breeding, base planting and product processing.

 

At the same time, the county government has strengthened cooperation between local enterprises and universities, and introduced tea companies in Fuding city of Fujian province, the hometown of Chinese white tea, to settle in Rucheng county and jointly develop the white tea industry. 

 

“Rucheng Baimao Tea has great development prospects. However, due to its low production, there is a limited amount of such tea in the market,” said an official of Rucheng Baimao Tea Command. It requires more promotion efforts to form a greater brand effect and let more people in the country and even the world know about Rucheng Baimao Tea.
