Villagers were busy harvesting ginger in Banqiao village of Liyutang town in Yongxing county, Chenzhou city.
“After introducing the ginger industry in the village, I also planted 4 mu (0.267 hectares) of ginger. This year, the yield per mu (0.067 hectares) is estimated to be over 3,000 kilograms. Calculated at a price of 6 to 8 yuan per kilogram, the income per mu (0.067 hectares) will exceed 20,000 yuan,” said Zeng Aimin, full of joy.
He has contracted 20 mu (1.33 hectares) of land to expand the planting scale. There will be more harvest next year.
The booming ginger industry not only helps fatten the wallets of growers, but also creates job opportunities for villagers at their doorstep.
A villager said, “We are getting old and can’t find a job outside. Our children are also worried about us. Now we can earn some pocket money near our homes.” He can earn about 80 yuan a day from harvesting ginger.
The village secretary introduced that considering the geographical location and climate conditions, Banqiao Village has been guiding villagers to develop the ginger industry since 2021, and now the planting area is 335 mu (22.33 hectares).
Next, the village will continue to expand the planting scale and extend the industrial chain, so as to lead more villagers to make money through ginger planting.
