Located at the junction of Hunan, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces, Chenzhou has been regarded as “South Gate of Hunan Province”, serving as a fortress from Hunan to Guangdong and Hainan provinces. It has jurisdiction over two districts, one city and eight counties, with 251 towns and townships, and 2,953 administrative villages. The total population in Chenzhou is 4.6 million and the total area is 19,400 km2. Chenzhou is an outstanding tourist city in China, crowned with titles of “The Home of Non-ferrous Metals in China”, "The Key Forest Region in the South of China”, and “The Energy Base of Hunan Province”. The mileage of roads open to traffic reaches 12,780 kilometers, among which 6,752 kilometers is in the charge of transportation departments. Within Chenzhou City there are 3 national roads (Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway, Expressway 107 and Expressway 106), 9 provincial roads with a length of 858 kilometers in total, and 92 county roads with a total length of 2,262 kilometers. In addition, the city has 97 town level roads of 3,253, and 9 roads of 109 kilometers for special use. Channels open to navigation total 436.5 kilometers. Asphalt roads or concrete roads are available in 99.6 % towns and townships, and 76% administrative villages.
