Safer Drinking Water Available

2012-09-21

When arriving at Ziran Village of Jiahe County, the reporters found that all the houses of villagers have been installed with tap water. Villagers highly appreciated that convenient installation.

Jiahe county is on the upstream of Chongling river which is the first tributary of Xiangjiang river. Because of the uneven raining and sever soil erosion, the water reservation capacity becomes worse. In recent years, the worse situation caused more severe consequences like unqualified drinking water and exhaustion of water sources, which greatly affected the daily life of people.

In order to provide people with qualified and safe drinking water, Jiahe government collected 249 million yuan to carry out the integration of urban & rural water supply project. This project takes Panjiang water reservoir as the main pipeline. Now 70 million yuan investment has been fulfilled for the first phase project which covers Zhuquan, Panjiang, Xinglang and other counties. The second phase is under construction with 60 million yuan investment now.

People from Panxiang, Zhuquan, Tianxin, Xinglang towns were supplied with tap water from January 13, 2012. In order to cover all county’s tap water supply, Jiahe county made the best use of other four secondary water reservoir resources. All the four reservoirs can finish 66.6kms main pipelines, efficient for 75000 people’s daily water uses.

Deputy Secretary of Hunan Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Hunan Province- Xu Shousheng highly appraised Jiahe government’s efforts on doing such a great project during his investigation of Jiahe county in this August. Xu stated that this kind of integration of urban and rural project can greatly benefit people especially rural people from the equal public services and development results. Through this way, urban and rural residents have equal access to public services and government departments can effectively help vulnerable groups, who have the same right to enjoy the outcome of the integration of urban and rural construction.
