Qiaotou Town Helps Farmers to Increase Income by Improving Tea Industry

When reporters arrived at the tea base of Qiaotou town of Guidong county, tea farmers were busy in operating the planting works of tea. “To ensure the sufficient contact of roots and soil, the large line spacing should be kept 120cm, small one should be 33cm, and group spacing should be 30cm… All the knowledge was learned from the training course.” Huang Ruiying- one of the tea farmers of the town said excitedly to the reporters.

 

“If the tea leaves can be picked up timely on the rich phase, 300kgs/mu fresh leaves can be obtained every year. According to the marketing price- 40yuan/kg of fresh leaves, 10,000yuan can be gained by the farmers for each mu, which was many times more than planting rice.”said Chen Zigui- Secretary of Hongqiao village’s Party branch.

 

Focused on establishing the county to be “tea leave town of China”, the town placed much more attention on improving the tea leaves production which was one of the main measures to increase farmers’ income on the process of implementing upgrading project of modern agriculture. Furthermore, tea garden ecological farm, tea garden travel, “10-mile tea gallery” along S352, and etc. would be further improved by the county to extend the industrial chain and improve tea industry to be a new highlight for increasing farmers’ income. Currently, the total tea plantation areas of the county are 42,000mu, more than 1500mu of which are 2015 new group tea gardens with over 5mu areas.
