The Yangshan Ancient Village in Guiyang County was named after Qitianling (Qitianling is one of the five mountains in Nanling Mountain, called Yangshan in Qin Dynasty). Founded in Hongzhi Period of Ming Dynasty, there are more than 60 ancient buildings. Structurally, it embodies the Confucian thought of "neutralization", which is the perfect combination of folk culture and classical architecture.

Yangshan Ancient Village, located in Zhenghe Township, Guiyang County, is more than 30 kilometers away from Chenzhou City and 18 kilometers away from Guiyang County, forming a golden tourism triangle with Wanhua Rock, Yangtian Lake and Siqing Lake. The Hakka people in Yangshan Ancient Village mainly used the surname He. With its simple residential buildings and harmonious folk customs, it shows people a simple and harmonious picture. The Guiyang in Chenzhou was called "Millennium Old County" and "Famous Area of South Chu". As early as more than 18,000 years ago, the ancient people lived and multiplied, belonging to the branch of "Longquan Culture". Emperor Shennong moved from the south of the Central Plains to the south of Hunan, where he spread farming culture.

The biggest difference between Yangshan and other ancient villages is that Yangshan is not a village built by officials or businessmen, but a typical literati village. The Yangshan Ancient Village is surrounded by green hills and beautiful waters, which is quite similar to the realm described in "The Peach Blossom Source". Especially in the layout, the village has the harmony of man and nature, and the houses are scattered with delicate, carved beams and painted buildings. The village's lighting, ventilation and drainage treatment highlights the wisdom of the ancients.

The name of this village is also quite exquisite. It was the village where Liao's family lived. He’ family, born in Lujiang County 500 years ago, did not return to his hometown after resigning, but brought his family here to live. Later, He's family multiplied and nurtured many talents from generation to generation, either for civil servants or military generals, to build the famous village. We don't know when the surname Liao disappeared from here, and the whole village only has the He surname.

According to historical records, the "Zongyuan Club", "Baby Rescue Club", "Forbidden Society", "Chongjiuhui", "Yixue Society" and "Daughter Club" spontaneously set up in Yangshan Village have formed a centuries-old family style of "tolerance, sincerity, harmony and auspiciousness".

This function of self-restraint, self-education and self-continuation from Yangshan Ancient Village maintains the relative stability of a remote village. According to experts from the Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, it is "rare" in Hunan Province. Only this point, Yangshan Ancient Village can occupy a position in the study of ancient residential villages in Hunan and even the whole country.
