Xiangnan College is incorporated from the former Chenzhou Teachers Junior College, Chenzhou Medical Junior College, Chenzhou College of Education and Chenzhou Normal College. Covering an area of over 1400 mu, Xiangnan College is made up of three campuses, namely Wang Xian, Suxian, and Beihu. The total built-up area of Wang Xian campus is 310,000 square meters, with an enrollment of 12,000 and more than 700 residential units for the faculty.

Since its establishment, Xiangnan College has been focusing on its students’ cultivation and teaching quality, highlighting not only teaching centers but also moral values. The college is always advancing with the times, pioneering and innovating, constantly deepening reform and accelerating development. As a result, all the work proceeds smoothly with good results. The size of the staff is 1603 people (including 362 retirees). Over 300 of them hold a Ph.D. / master's degree. Six teachers enjoy special allowance granted by the State Council. Ten of them have won the title of the province's outstanding teachers and six of them have been included in the Hunan New Century 121 Talent Project. By far the College has 33 undergraduate programs, among which applied chemistry and nursing are special majors recognized by the Ministry of Education. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Physical Education are provincial key disciplines. The College also has 19 junior programs, covering the arts, science, medicine, engineering, economics, management, law and education, altogether 8 categories. Among which Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Pharmacology are provincial key disciplines. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics has a provincial innovation team of science and technology. Currently the total enrollment of full-time college and junior college students has reached 15,000.

The College has teaching equipments with a total value of over 60 million yuan, 1.2 million library books, 2,000 plus Chinese and foreign periodicals, campus network connecting with Internet, electronic reading room, 10 language labs, 60 multimedia classrooms, 40 laboratories for all disciplines, among which, the applied chemistry lab is a provincial demonstration lab of basic disciplines, and the pharmacology lab and physics lab are provincial Key Laboratories. The College attaches great importance to teaching and research work. In accordance with the requirements of undergraduate education, it has issued a series of teaching and research management systems, and increased teaching and research awards.
