Polytechnic Institute of Chenzhou is located at a blessed city. It enjoys convenient transportation and pleasant environment. To its north is the State Road 107 and Beijing-Guangzhou railway. To its east is Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway. It only takes three-hour drive to either Changsha or Guangzhou. The Institute has two campuses: one in the east and the other in the north, both with complete teaching facilities.

The guideline of this Institute is to serve and work toward of employment. This market-oriented school sets up six departments of Accounting and Finance, industrial automation, business administration, computer information management, mechanical and automotive engineering, tourism management and liberal arts and law, nurturing innovative, adaptive and highly skilled professionals in operation, management, and engineering . The Institute has set up altogether 31 programs, among which mining electromechanics and tourism management are of local characteristics. With an enrollment of nearly 6000, the institute is also a demonstration base of vocational training for small and medium enterprises.

The institute highlights the leading role of master teachers and experts in teaching. Among the 215 full-time teachers, there are one entitled National Master Teacher and two Provincial Master Teacher (accounting for one half and one eighth of the total number among all the provincial vocational institutes respectively) and three provincial academic leaders. The Institute also boasts 80 full-time and part-time professors, associate professors and senior engineers, 37doctors and masters, and five provincial young core teachers.

The institute gives a special emphasis on vocational and capacity training. Based on the "institute-enterprise cooperation" model and "Work-learning alternation" model, the institute pioneered a "Six in One" capacity-oriented curriculum model reform in the province, which has been fully recognized by the Provincial Department of Education and other vocational institutions. Its excellent course construction has been admitted into national ranks.
