Legend for fragrant orange well:
It was a legend for Su Xian who was born in Western Han Dynasty in Chenzhou. It was said that his mother found herself pregnant when she washed clothes on the bank of river, which was ashamed because it was claimed by public to be pregnant before getting married at the ancient time. Su’s mother hid herself in Bailu cave of Niupishan mountain, which was named Suxianling later and gave birth to Suxian there. Su’s mother abandoned Su at first, but came back to take him after three days. However, she found Su was fed by white deer and protected by white cranes. Su was filial to his mother from childhood. One day, he met a celestial being and was taught with medical skills. Su was believed to be generous and helpful by curing their diseases with his wonderful medical skills. When Su was twelve years old, he became the youngest celestial being in China’s ancient legend. Before he flied away with the white crane, he taught his mother how to cure the pestilence, which happened in Chenzhou later. The way is to use the water of orange well to cook the orange tree’s leaves behind the house. By using this way, many Chenzhou people were saved from the pestilence. Now “fragrant orange well” is a well-known saying for praising doctors with good morality.
