Chenzhou history

Eight hundred years ago, Guidong county was founded after Yaohan Great Rising. In order to protect people from bandits of Mangshan and Guangdong area’s rebellion, Yizhang county build some military forts such as Suyuan fort, Bali fort and Huangsha fort. Among them, Huangsha fort was largely preserved intact. As a rare military fort preserved in the region south of the Yangtze River, its high military scientific research value attracted more attention from high levels of Chinese military.

Chenzhou locates in Nanling mountain area. Han, Yao, She, Miao and other nationalities gathered here for thousands of years. Many moved stories among the nationalities and abundant national culture resources happened there during this long history, waiting for ascendants to discover. Panwangyuan of Yao nation, Drum in Mangshan area, Songs for She race, and other local folk cultures may greatly help to upgrade Chenzhou tourism culture level.

Xiangnan Uprising

In 1920s, Xiangnan uprising happened in Chenzhou area and made Soviet government established, which was one of the great events for the Party’s history.

The historical remains for this event still reminded people of the greatness of this issue, so that they became the important tourism destination for the visitors of Chenzhou.
In recent years, Chenzhou municipal party committee and government has paid high attention to the red culture study and development, and held some conferences and commemorative activities concerning Xiangnan uprising. Now one national key level, 92 provincial levels, 125 municipal levels of preservation of cultural relics units are successfully approved in Chenzhou city, which impressed visitors with Chenzhou’s long history and red culture.
