There are lush mountains, lucid water, ancient villages, bamboo, flowers, and birds. Every dawn, the morning light breaks through the clouds, the breeze gently blows, and the river shimmers with ripples. The orange fragrance spreads far away, and the bamboo sea surges. This is the Dongtou Wild Ferry in Yongxing County, the first milestone monument for Xu Xiake’s travel in Hunan.
Xu Xiake is a famous traveler and geographer in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), who wrote the masterpiece “Travel Notes of Xu Xiake” to document every step of his travels around the country.
Xu Xiake found the beautiful scenery on both sides of the Bianjiang River could feast one’s eyes. Taking a boat on the Bianjiang River, you can behold the cliffs in your eyes and hear birds singing in your ears.
Dongtou Wild Ferry was once just a hollow natural village. It only took more than one year to transform from a hollow village to an Internet-famous attraction, with the wharf, distinctive homestay inns, quaint academy, and flow of water. From its trial operation last year to early March this year, it received more than 100,000 tourists.
There is a flat ground in front of Xu Xiake’s sculpture by the river, which is the best place for tourists to take selfies when standing in front of the sculpture and taking the lucid river and lush mountains as the background. Many tourists here will take photos or shoot short videos to record the pleasant moments.
After the Spring Festival, the construction of seven sub-projects was started at Dongtou Wild Ferry, including a rural style restaurant that can accommodate 600 people, Hongzu Academy, tea, wine and flower art, Golden River Bank, and Xiake Square, which will be fully completed and put into use by the end of August this year.
Dongtou Wild Ferry is like a rural museum without fences that is far away from the hustle and bustle, where natural aesthetics, folk customs, and nostalgia for old houses are fully reflected.
