The tradition of Dragon Lantern Dancing originated in the Southern Song Dynasty. People at that time believed that "Candle dragon" was in charge of light and darkness and "Ying dragon" was that of rain and wind. The legend of Nine Sons of a Dragon also prevailed among people. Therefore the traditional dragon dancing was developed into Dragon Lantern Dancing. Every year from lunar January 2nd to 15th, people could appreciate the dragon dancing performance accompanied by gongs, drums, cymbals and other musical instruments. Spectators would hold special fireworks to add fun to the performance. People enjoyed a lot in such an event.
