Yangtian Lake Horseback Riding Festival, a warm-up event of the 2021 Hunan Provincial (Summer) Rural Cultural Tourism Festival, was opened on July 23. Equestrian greats from all over China gathered at Yangtian Lake Grassland to put on a wonderful performance of horseback riding and archery for visitors.

The Horseback Riding Festival is divided into three parts. In the first part of the horse parade, hundreds of riders in armor paraded through the Yangtian Lake Grassland. In the second part of the horseback archery show, horseback riding enthusiasts from South China and local herdsmen competed in horseback archery. In the third part of the horse race, along with the earth-shaking sound of drums, horses galloped forward speedily, attracting applause from the audience.
"In July, the average temperature of Yangtian Lake Grassland is 20℃, so it is not hot even if you wear thick armor. Accompanied by blue sky, white clouds and green grassland, watching an exciting horse race is simply a pleasure," said Xiao Shengnan, Marketing Director of Yangtian Lake Grassland Scenic Area. The horse race not only aims to show the racing spirit, but also to let more people know about the historical horseback archery culture.
Yangtian Lake Grassland is located at the top of a high mountain at an altitude of more than 1,300 meters, and the lake in the grassland is a dead volcanic crater from the Quaternary glacial period, hence the name. Yangtian Lake Grassland is known as "the Most Beautiful Alpine Grassland in Southern China" and is famous in South and Central China for its unique alpine grassland and horseback riding culture. Its vast and flat grassland is a desirable venue for horseback riding in central and southern China.
The 2021 Hunan Provincial (Summer) Rural Cultural Tourism Festival will be opened on July 30 in Yangtian Lake Grassland. Starting from the day of the Horseback Riding Festival, the horse parade will be performed regularly at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day.
