2023-07-25

On July 21, an evening gala kicked off in Liaojiadong Village, Yangtianhu Yao Township, Beihu District, Chenzhou City. Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters, the village boasts picturesque scenery and fresh air. The average temperature during summer is around 27 degrees Celsius. It is only a 20-minute drive from the Yangtian Lake Scenic Area, providing unique advantages for the development of rural tourism and homestays.

On that day, an evening gala, organized by local homestay owners was held at the village square. Guests staying in the local homestay inns and villagers were invited to participate in the event. As night fell, the evening gala heated up with dance performances, live music, and a bonfire party, illuminating the night of Liaojiadong Village. With the evening breeze, tourists and villagers gathered around the stage, dancing and experiencing the beautiful night.

“The preparation for this gala took about half a month. We raised funds and invited both guests and villagers to participate. There are more than 10 performances, and everyone could join,” said Hu Hengjun, vice president of the Liaojiadong Village Homestay Council.

Every day, he goes to the village square to erect and decorate the stage. When talking about his newly opened Hu Gong Homestay, he couldn’t hide his joy. He said, “My homestay started operating during the May Day holiday, and the occupancy rate was 100% during the short vacation period. Now, in the peak summer season, the occupancy rate has reached 90%, with only one room left vacant.”

In recent years, with the popularity of rural homestays and rural tourism, Liaojiadong Village has become a well-known summer resort. Visitors from distant places such as Guangdong and Jiangxi have come, bringing direct economic benefits to the village close to tens of millions of yuan. More and more villagers who used to work outside are now returning to the village to run homestay inns.

“The development of homestays in Liaojiadong Village started in 2019. From the initial one homestay inn with 52 beds, it now has over 50 ones with 1,500 beds. During the summer season, it’s extremely difficult to book a room,” said Xiao He, president of the Liaojiadong Village Homestay Council.
